Introduction
Boost Financial Literacy with a Financial App that Guides Better Decisions
While financial literacy in Indonesia is rising, a significant gap remains. This case study addresses the challenge by designing an app that improves financial literacy through three key features: simple budgeting, clear education, and engaging gamification.
Financial well-being isn't a distant goal it's a daily practice. Wallet motion provides the insights and tools needed for true financial control, turning confusing spending habits into confident decisions and putting your financial future back in your hands.
Challenges
The main challenge was to design an app for a sensitive topic, personal finance, that felt empowering, not intimidating. The design needed to simplify complex data into clear visuals and be engaging enough to motivate consistent tracking.
Research
I applied design thinking to develop the app concept, ensuring design decisions address user needs. A Google Forms survey with 35 participants helped gather insights on user preferences and financial management, featuring 10 questions with 3 answer choices.
Solutions
Based on research and key insights, the following solutions were designed to tackle the main project challenges.
Friendly onboarding with supportive tone to build confidence.
Simple visuals to make financial data clear and approachable.
Goal-setting and progress tracking to encourage consistency.
Educational tips to help users build healthy money habits.
Process
My process began with user research to clearly define the core problem. I then moved through low and high-fidelity design phases, creating interactive prototypes for testing, and finally documenting the project in a detailed case study.
Testing
To evaluate the design, the prototype was tested with 5 users in usability tests and interviews. The final design achieved a System Usability Scale (SUS) score of 80, an 'Excellent' rating that indicates strong user satisfaction.
Outcomes
In the end, the design solved the main challenges I faced. The result was a straightforward solution that was useful for users and met the project's goals.
Core Feature Scope
6 core user flows designed for financial management.
User Task Success
A 95% success rate for key tasks during usability tests.
System Usability Score
A SUS score of 80, which is an 'Excellent' rating.
